The making-of shoot for <Haru>.
Maybe because Netflix rented out the location directly, the scale was quite large.
‘There are a ton of people.’
As Seongtae stepped onto the set, he let out a small murmur of awe at the sight of people filling his entire field of view.
There were only three actors, but there were more than ten PDs and staff.
Lighting crew, sound crew, props crew, and so on…
They were moving about busily under Seongtae’s gaze.
“Seongtae, what are you doing? Let’s go in.”
“Yes, hyung, I’m coming now.”
At Jung Dusik’s words, Seongtae nodded and immediately started walking.
And so, they arrived at the actors’ waiting room.
“…So back then, you know.”
“That must’ve been nice. I also…”
Seo Harin and Yoo Beomsan had arrived early and were chatting.
Seongtae smiled when he saw their familiar faces.
“Hello.”
“Oh! Seongtae-ssi!”
“Welcome. We were just talking about you, Seongtae-ssi.”
Hearing Seongtae’s voice, they came over with bright smiles.
“Seongtae, I’ve got something to discuss with the PD, so I’ll be outside. If you need anything, call me.”
“Yes, hyung.”
Jung Dusik left the room, and Seongtae’s group happily let the conversation bloom.
Knock, knock.
“We’re going to start filming.”
At the staff member’s voice, the three of them sprang to their feet.
“Let’s go.”
“Yes, please take care of us today as well.”
“Hoo… I’m nervous.”
At Seongtae’s words, Seo Harin let out a laugh, and Yoo Beomsan sighed.
A faint smile formed at the corner of Seongtae’s mouth as he watched them.
“Nice to meet you.”
As Seongtae’s group headed toward the set, one person approached.
“I’m PD Nam Yeonseok, in charge of today’s shoot.”
The man who introduced himself as PD Nam Yeonseok was the director who would be filming the making-of for <Haru>.
“You all received the script in advance, right?”
“Yes.”
“Yes, we did.”
While they were talking in the waiting room, the staff had come by and handed them the script.
They had looked it over together and were already familiar with the rough contents.
“First, we’ll proceed according to the script, so there’s no need to be too nervous. Is this kind of shoot a first for all of you?”
“Yes.”
“It’s my first time.”
“I’ve filmed something like this once before.”
While everyone else answered “yes,” Seongtae alone answered “no.”
Everyone’s eyes turned to him.
“I appeared on You Quiz before.”
“Ah.”
“Right.”
At Seongtae’s answer, they nodded as if they understood.
“Great. And you’ve all heard that what we film today will go up on MiTube, right? Okay, then let’s start filming right away.”
“Yes.”
PD Nam Yeonseok explained how today’s shoot would proceed.
Seongtae and his group had already received the script, so it was all information they already knew.
The four of them walked together.
Between three wall screens in a pale bluish-green color, three chairs had been set.
With Seongtae in the center, Yoo Beomsan and Seo Harin sat down on his left and right.
“We’re starting the shoot!”
With the slate’s signal, the camera began rolling.
“Today, we’ve invited the actors of <Haru>. Could each of you introduce yourselves to the viewers, one by one?”
Under PD Nam Yeonseok’s lead, Seongtae spoke first.
“I’m Han Seongtae, and I play the psycho killer Choi Deoksu in <Haru>.”
“I’m Seo Harin, and I play Yoon Huiyeon, who struggles desperately to survive a psychopathic killer.”
Starting with Seongtae and ending with Yoo Beomsan, they finished their introductions.
Watching them, PD Nam Yeonseok nodded with satisfaction and spoke.
“What kind of drama is <Haru>?”
“<Haru> is, honestly, not really a huge, amazing drama.”
“Huh? I feel like the director should be here to hear that.”
PD Nam Yeonseok smiled and pretended to look around.
Seongtae let out a small chuckle and continued.
As he answered calmly, PD Nam Yeonseok also leaned forward again, listening intently.
“I think it’s a drama made from something that could happen anytime in everyday life. A psycho killer suddenly appearing and killing people is an extreme situation, but I mean it in the sense that something with a similar kind of feeling can appear anywhere.”
“Ah…”
“If you’re a high school senior, studying can be that kind of thing, and if you’re an office worker, going to work can be that kind of thing.”
At Seongtae’s explanation, Nam Yeonseok let out a quiet sound of admiration and nodded.
His calm explanation was easy for everyone to understand.
Satisfied with Seongtae’s answer, Nam Yeonseok turned his head and looked at Seo Harin.
“The <Haru> I think of felt unfamiliar, like it didn’t belong.”
After Seo Harin and Yoo Beomsan also finished answering the questions, the interview continued in a gentle mood.
“Then let’s move on to the next question. Um, how did it feel working with Actress Seo Harin and Actor Yoo Beomsan?”
At PD Nam Yeonseok’s question, Seongtae answered without difficulty.
What he felt acting with Harin, what he could see while acting with Beomsan.
Because every one of those moments had come to him as unforgettable memories.
“Harin-ssi is like a sponge. It’s amazing how she nails her acting right away, instantly. As for Beomsan-ssi, I think the words ‘active volcano’ fit him well. The way he pulls emotions up to the limit and detonates them—it’s acting I want to learn myself. Both of them were more than I deserved.”
“I see. Harin-ssi, how about you?”
“I… honestly didn’t get to see Seongtae-ssi much on set.”
“…Pardon?”
What did she mean by that?
PD Nam Yeonseok tilted his head, puzzled, and Seongtae cocked his head as well.
While filming <Haru>, Seongtae had spent practically the entire day glued to her.
There were many days when they were together for more than ten hours.
So he couldn’t help but be confused by her claim that she hadn’t seen him.
“Do you know method acting? It’s something that comes out when you fully immerse yourself in a role. Seongtae-ssi was exactly like that. When I went to set, it wasn’t Seongtae-ssi—Choi Deoksu was there.”
“Ah…”
It was extravagant praise.
At her words, Seongtae could only let out a hollow laugh.
That it wasn’t Seongtae, but Choi Deoksu, who was there.
What that meant was that Seongtae’s acting was that incredible.
‘I didn’t expect to get praised like this.’
After Seo Harin, Yoo Beomsan didn’t hold back his praise for Seongtae either.
Watching them, Seongtae had to try his hardest to keep the corners of his mouth from rising.
“There was something that was hard when acting with Seongtae-ssi. He acts so insanely well that you can’t tell what’s real and what’s fake, you know? So whenever we were filming, I kept thinking, ah, I might actually die.”
“That must’ve been really hard. If things went wrong, it sounds like you could’ve even gotten trauma.”
“If Seongtae-ssi were just someone who acted well, I think that would’ve happened.”
“What do you mean?”
“Once the acting ends, he takes such good care of you. He helps the staff a lot, too. Watching him make sure you’re not uncomfortable, you start thinking, is this guy my manager or something?”
“He goes that far?”
At Seo Harin’s words, PD Nam Yeonseok tilted his head like he couldn’t believe it.
Right now, Seongtae was an actor whose stock was soaring.
On top of that, people said he was so busy practicing that he didn’t even sleep properly.
So it probably wasn’t easy to believe that someone like that would take such careful care of others.
“I got a lot of help too. I don’t know if it’s okay to say this here, but the only reason I could be sitting in this seat is all thanks to Seongtae-ssi.”
“Wow… What is this, he’s like an onion. The more you peel, the more there is.”
Listening to Seo Harin and Yoo Beomsan, PD Nam Yeonseok couldn’t stop admiring.
Watching him, Seongtae smiled faintly.
[‘The One With a Thousand Faces’ listens to this and gives you a satisfied smile, saying you’ve really lived well.]
[‘The One Who Defined an Era’ says this is the result brought about by your usual conduct, and that you have every right to be proud.]
In the good atmosphere, the filming continued.
As Nam Yeonseok filmed, he couldn’t help but keep marveling.
Every single compliment Seo Harin and Yoo Beomsan gave about Seongtae made you say, “That’s incredible.”
‘How can a person be so different?’
Nam Yeonseok blinked as he looked at Seongtae.
Before filming, he had watched the teaser for <Haru> in advance.
In that video, Seongtae was the very embodiment of a one-of-a-kind psychopathic killer.
It had left such a strong impression that it was hard to imagine him as anything other than Choi Deoksu.
But the Seongtae he saw in person was so kind-hearted that you’d doubt he was even the same man who played Choi Deoksu.
‘It’s even more shocking that this isn’t an act.’
Seongtae’s appearance absolutely wasn’t something he was putting on.
Even now, wasn’t he naturally bringing Seo Harin water?
And Seo Harin didn’t react like his behavior was strange.
Which meant that those small actions of Seongtae’s came out naturally.
‘Someone like that did that kind of acting?’
Because it was so hard to believe, the feeling Nam Yeonseok experienced was doubled.
“Could each of you show a bit of acting for our viewers?”
He wanted to see Seongtae’s acting for himself.
At Nam Yeonseok’s words, Seo Harin and Yoo Beomsan immediately acted.
Not bad.
Because it was on the spot, it didn’t have the same shock as the video, but it was still clear they were good.
“Hoo…”
Seongtae let out a breath.
And the air on set became heavy.
‘Did they turn off the heater?’
As he watched Seongtae, a chill crawled over him for no reason.
At first, he thought the heater had been turned off.
“People really make things annoying.”
But the moment Seongtae’s voice came through, he understood what that chill really was.
“If you keep running away like that, I can’t make it painless for you.”
Slowly delivering the line, Seongtae lifted one corner of his mouth.
He changed so abruptly that you’d doubt this was the same Seongtae who had been so innocent just moments ago.
And yet it didn’t feel unnatural.
The image he’d seen before vanished from his mind, and the Seongtae who was acting felt like the real thing.
“PD-nim.”
“Yes.”
“Doesn’t this feel like it’s going to blow up? This is just insane.”
“…Yes, I think so too.”
At the assistant director’s words, Nam Yeonseok couldn’t help but agree.
Even just from the story Seongtae and his group were unfolding, he’d already felt certain they could pull a strong reaction.
But the acting Seongtae had just shown made him certain twice over.
“Aren’t we going to hit a million? At this level, it feels like we could hit a million.”
“A million…”
In the past, he would’ve thought that number was impossible.
But the moment he saw Seongtae’s acting, a strong conviction took root that maybe they could even go beyond a million.
“Is this enough?”
After finishing the acting, Seongtae smiled awkwardly, and Nam Yeonseok clenched his fist tight.
Somehow, he had a feeling this was going to be a huge hit.
