“Whoa, awesome! What’s this? Why do we have chicken?”
Hyun-ah burst into excitement when she saw a box of chicken in Hyun-seung’s hand.
“I bought it,” he replied.
Immediately, Hyun-ah muttered “Whoa…” and hurriedly signed to their father: “Dad! Amazing!
Oppa bought chicken!”
Their father’s eyes widened as he signed back, asking, “Hyun-seung, where did you get the money to buy chicken?”
Hyun-seung signed back,“Do you think I just bought chicken? I also got a present for each of you.”
After speaking, Hyun-seung placed his brand‐new laptop on the table and said,“Here—it’s for you to study hard.”
“Is that a MacBook?!”
“Yep. It’s the top model with the best specs, so use it for a long time.”
Then, as if to emphasize further, he added,“Don’t be careless and break it.”
He continued by handing his father a shopping bag:“This is a jumper I bought as a gift for you.”
“A jumper? It looks expensive…”
“I thought you didn’t have a proper one.”
It turned out to be a premium brand bought on impulse.
“Even if it is expensive, please don’t worry about saving money—just wear it comfortably.”
However, both his father and Hyun-ah reacted quite differently than Hyun-seung expected.
“Oppa, where did you get the money to buy all this?”
Their looks were filled with disbelief and worry, as if they were wondering where it all came from.
“Are you… did you steal it?”
“Where could you possibly get so much money…?”
“Nothing like that—I won the lottery.”
“Oppa! Don’t joke around…”
Hyun-seung sighed and said,“Just calm down—I’ll explain everything.”
It seemed that he needed to tell the whole story, even if it meant the chicken would get cold. In fact, his explanation went on until the chicken had completely cooled off.
“Oppa, you’re saying you made a song and sold it to a major agency?”
“That’s right.”
“You made that song in just one day—how much did they pay per song?”
“Three million won each.”
Hyun-ah sighed, “Huh, you expect me to believe that?”
“You should believe it,” Hyun-seung replied, showing his payment statement.
“If it’s true, what will you do if you don’t believe me?”
“Wow, it’s really LS Entertainment…”
“If you don’t trust me, I can show you the contract.”
Their father, surprised, urgently signed with his hands, “Hyun-seung, is that really true?”
Hyun-seung exhaled and said,“Give me a moment.”
Then he went to his room and brought back the contract he’d received by mail from LS Entertainment.
“Now, both of you, please take a look.”
It was a detailed contract about the per-song deal. The sound of pages rustling filled the room for a moment.
“See?” Hyun-seung said confidently as he began opening the now-cold chicken box, continuing calmly: “Contrary to your concerns, I have a natural, genius-level talent for composing music.
Thanks to that, it’s only a matter of time before our entire family is rolling in money. From now on, we’ll be worrying not about making money, but about how to spend it. I hereby proclaim this!”
Then, picking up a chicken leg, he handed it to his father and asked,“Does anyone disagree?”
Hyun-ah, clearly impressed, asked,“Oppa, does this mean you’re now going to work as a composer for LS?”
Hyun-seung handed the remaining chicken leg to Hyun-ah,“It’s just that I sold my songs this time—I haven’t decided which company to sign an exclusive contract with.”
“Wow, what on earth is happening…?”
“If there’s any decent place that pays well, I’ll sign a contract with them.”
Even though having to explain everything in detail wasn’t exactly appealing, one could understand why everyone might be shocked—a guy who used to just play games in his room suddenly coming into a lot of money would naturally scare people.
Hyun-seung then picked up a piece of chicken and added softly,“Min Hyun-ah, from now on you should focus solely on studying.”
After taking a bite, he put the chicken down and signed to their father,“Dad, you no longer have to worry about money.”
“But…”
“I’ve already taken care of all the overdue bills.”
“Hyun-seung…!”
Smiling, he added, “For now, just eat the chicken.”
Then he grumbled, “Man, everything is cold now.”
Later, in front of the elevator, a man in a suit was rubbing his chest and frowned.
“Ugh, I’m so fed up…”
The man, clearly suffering from a hangover, was Kim Woohyun—the manager at LS Entertainment. Since joining the company, he had personally discovered dozens of stars and had even become the youngest manager due to his exceptional ability. Perhaps it was due to excessive drinking the previous day—he had been drinking until nearly the same time as some PDs—and now his head was pounding. With his hazy mind, he waited for the elevator doors to open.
“Manager, hello,” greeted two A&R team engineers who approached him, coffee in hand.
“Ah, yes,” he mumbled.
One of the engineers tilted his head and asked, “Manager, are you feeling unwell? You don’t look so good…”
Kim Woo-hyun waved his hand dismissively and said, “No, it’s just the hangover.”
Just then, the elevator doors opened.
He let out a long breath of relief, adjusted his tie, and stepped into the elevator.
“Hey, did you listen to that composer’s demo yesterday?”
“Yeah, I did.”
“Don’t you think it was amazing?”
Kim Woo-hyun began listening to their conversation.
“Composer? Demo songs?” he thought. It seemed a very talented composer had emerged.
“How did he create such songs using only free sources?”
“Maybe he deliberately only used free sources?”
“Probably. To me, he’s just a music weirdo.”
One engineer, sipping his coffee, added,“A composer good enough to make that kind of song wouldn’t be short on cash to buy premium sources, right?”
“Exactly.”
“He can create this much using only free sources—that’s something else.”
Kim Woo-hyun then asked,“Did you guys sign a new composer?”
One engineer replied,“Have you not heard? Yesterday the entire A&R team was in an uproar over this composer.”
“Uproar?”
“Yes—a composer using a pseudonym suddenly sent over three demo songs, saying he wanted to sell them on a per-song basis for 3 million won each, and he only sent 30-second samples.”
Kim Woo-hyun slowly nodded.
“At first, I thought he was just another overconfident screw loose composer, but after listening to each sample, his work is truly exceptional.”
“Then instead of just buying the songs, did you offer him an exclusive contract?”
“He seems like the type who’s already signed exclusively with another company, though…”
Han In-kyu, the A&R team leader, folded his arms and said seriously, “We were planning to wait a bit before rushing into an exclusive offer. He might still have a long contract ahead, and if we suddenly propose a deal, it might be too much for him.”
“And besides, there’s no guarantee he’ll keep producing songs of this quality, so we thought we’d take our time.”
That cautious approach was typical of a team leader—but it wasn’t how Kim Woo-hyun preferred to handle business.
“Then I’ll just meet him,” Kim Woo-hyun said.
“What?”
“Meeting him and talking it out will tell us everything.”
Kim Woo-hyun then asked Han In-kyu, “Hand over the composer’s contact info and details.”
Han In-kyu replied, “Just a moment,” while fiddling with his smartphone.
“I’ve sent his contact info via text message.”
“And his name? All we know is his pseudonym?”
“For now, the account holder’s name is Min Hyun-seung…”
Han In-kyu shook his head, “I’m not sure if that’s even his real name.”
Kim Woo-hyun nodded and repeated softly, “Min Hyun-seung, Min Hyun-seung, Min Hyun-seung…”
That unfamiliar three-letter name seemed to promise a boost in his performance evaluations, and a deep smile spread across his face.
“Manager, will you contact him right away?” Han In-kyu asked.
“Of course,” Kim Woo-hyun replied, and immediately he began dialing.
Beep, beep, beep.
After a few rings, everyone in the room grew tense as they watched him.
“—He can’t take the call right now due to a customer issue…”
A voicemail message then played.
“What? Is he busy?”
Kim Woo-hyun quickly sent a text message:
[ Hello, Composer. This is Manager Kim Woohyun from LS Entertainment’s Management Team. I was very impressed with your song and would like to propose something mutually beneficial. ]
A short while later, a reply came back.
“Manager, what did he say?” Han In-kyu asked nervously.
“What is he saying…?” Kim Woohyun murmured quietly.
Han In-kyu looked closely at Kim Woohyun’s smartphone screen.
“What?”
After checking the message several times, Han In-kyu read:
[ I’m extremely saddened because all the radishes I worked so hard to grow last night were stolen. Let’s talk later. ]
Suddenly, the message said his “radish” had been stolen.
“What the—? Is he into farming as a hobby?”
Everyone in the room was filled with confusion.
